About VMIT
Learn about the people providing local IT support for Norfolk’s security-conscious small businesses.
The Story So Far
VMIT has been providing IT support to businesses in Norwich, Norfolk, and beyond since 2006. Here’s how our journey has shaped the people-first approach we’re known for today.
2006
The Beginning
Nils launched VMIT in 2006 as a self-employed venture with an aim to provide IT support to schools, businesses, and home users. Coming from an educational background, he had a growing skillset in both academic and technical work.
Everything Nils took to customers on his initial visit would fit inside a box in the boot of a car – a simple philosophy we try to keep to even now.
Nils valued integrity and honesty in business, and these became core values in VMIT. They’ve remained that way until today.

2010 - 2012
Haven’t You Heard? He’s a Trusted Trader
After converting his home garage into a fully-fledged home office, Nils joined the Norfolk Trusted Trader scheme (and soon after became the scheme’s top trader for Computer Services in Norfolk).
VMIT was number one on the scheme throughout the six years we were part of it.
Microsoft Partners
Nils continued his route of professional development gaining more and more qualifications – and decided to take the step to apply for Microsoft partnership.
From 2012 onwards we became Microsoft partners and official re-sellers of their products and services.

2014 - 2015
We’re Growing!
We expanded in 2014, bringing on fresh-faced techie Phil Rose. Despite no prior industry experience, Phil quickly earned numerous Microsoft certifications.
His achievements helped us gain Microsoft Silver Competency status for Small & Midmarket Cloud, authorising us to support and resell Microsoft products to wider market.
(And Moving On Up)
Just a year after Phil joined the business, the customer base had grown at such a rate that Nils was able to justify leaving the home office and relocating to Wensum Mount Business Centre.
There, we set up base in an office we still work in today.

2017
Getting Schooled
In 2017, VMIT employed Martha. Martha was from an educational background and managed IT infrastructure for several schools. She quickly earned multiple Microsoft certifications, including our highest Microsoft 365 qualification, and now manages our technical workload.
As we grew, we decided to focus exclusively on business customers to ensure consistent service quality.
We left the Norfolk Trusted Trader scheme (which primarily serves domestic services) while still ranked #1 for IT services, with a 9.6/10 rating and 100% recommendations from 294 reviews.

2018 - 2020
Securing the Road
2018 was a great year for nailing down the final titles we wanted. We were awarded the Microsoft Silver Datacenter & Small and Midmarket certified title, and then shortly after became Cyber Essentials Certified.
Working from Home
In 2019, we strengthened our business identity through consistent branding and telephony training, attending exhibitions that gained us 22 new customers.
When COVID hit in 2020, our existing cloud infrastructure meant we could seamlessly transition to remote work while maintaining uninterrupted service.

2022 - now
Rebuilding...
After a few years of changes, in 2022 we took the opportunity to grow the team again, continuing our professional development and growth as a company.
We created an Apprentice IT Technician position, and we also took on a Work Experience position, sharing our expertise with the next generation.
...And Reinvesting
In early 2023, we invested in a Remote Monitoring & Management tool to strengthen our proactive support, spending the year implementing it across our client base. We also achieved Cyber Essentials Plus certification, and Martha expanded our in-house expertise with additional ESET and Microsoft 365 accreditations.
Today, we are more capable than ever. This is reflected in our highest renewal rates to date as we continue to refine and elevate our service offering.

The Team That Puts Conscience Before KPIs
Our values guide every decision we make and every interaction we have. They’re not just words on a wall – they’re the principles that have helped us maintain client loyalty for nearly two decades.
People Over Profit
We believe in doing IT right, not cutting corners or treating clients as numbers. Every decision starts with "What's right for you?" rather than "What's most profitable for us?"
Nurturing Homegrown Talent
We build our team from within, transforming apprentices into skilled technicians through mentorship and ongoing development.
Our team enjoys excellent benefits, such as award winning health insurance and income protection to support their physical and mental well-being (because happy technicians deliver better support).
Conscientious Partnerships
Your technology should enhance your business, not burden it.
We take time to understand your goals, provide honest recommendations, and deliver solutions that genuinely serve your long-term needs.
Supporting Local & Regional Businesses
We’re proud to support Norwich-based businesses as well as larger organisations with branches across Norfolk, Suffolk and beyond.
Whether you're a local SME or a national company with a regional footprint, we deliver tailored IT to your structure, scale, and strategy.
“I Cannot Praise Nils and His Team Highly Enough.”

“VMIT does not give the hard sell, they offer honest, constructive and beneficial recommendations with no pressure to proceed with them.
Their support has been above and beyond our expectations.”
